Instant Torque Drive

Sensorless zero-speed torque
for PMSM drives

PMSM Motor

High start torque at 0 rpm

Start heavy loads without a rotor position sensor

Simpler motor + simpler system

Less wiring, fewer parts, fewer failure points

Built for automotive-style and industrial loads

Pumps and starter-generator start events

The pain today:
zero-speed start
needs rotor angle

Without a position sensor, many sensorless PMSM drives struggle to deliver high torque exactly at standstill — the moment your pump or starter needs it most.

Typical PMSM drive (FOC)

  • FOC needs the rotor electrical angle to make torque
  • Sensorless observers use back EMF (voltage generated by rotation)
  • At 0 rpm: back EMF is 0 → angle estimate becomes unreliable

Common workaround

  • Add a resolver / encoder / Hall sensors
  • Extra wiring + connectors + mechanical tolerance stack
  • Higher cost and more failure points (especially in automotive environments)
Our Solution

How our solution works in practice

1

Engineered rotor saliency

Our rotor magnetic geometry creates different inductance in different directions — a "fingerprint" of rotor angle.

2

High-frequency (HF) signal injection

A small HF test signal is injected into the main windings (for a short time) during start.

3

Observer estimates angle at standstill

Firmware reads the saliency response to estimate rotor angle → FOC can create torque immediately.
